DELAY CLAIM ANALYSIS USING PRIMAVERA P6

USING ADJUSTED CPM OR BUT-FOR METHOD

This procedure entails the preparation of CPM diagram to determine each party's rights in a project where delays have occurred. The diagram is an 'adjusted' CPM to establish the time for completion of the project in the absence of employer delays.

Besides using CPM to prove delay claim, it is stressed that the procedure should be well documented in terms of an analysis of the project records and that it is unlikely that the diagrams alone will suffice if the aim is to convince a third party.

If we wish to know the effect that the delays attributable to the employer had on the completion of the project, the argument adopted is that we must pull out from the 'as-built' CPM reflecting all delays, those employer's delays that affected the critical path(s). When this procedure has been finalized, the amount of delay for which the employer is liable in terms of both cost and time is found by the difference in time between the actual completion date and the completion date shown on the 'adjusted' CPM. This is sometimes known as the 'but for' approach, in that the argument used to support it is that the procedure attempts to identify the time the contractor would have taken to complete the project but for the delays caused by the employer.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COURSE?

This course is specifically designed for those have already completed the Primavera P6 training. The participants will use Primavera P6 to create a live project to work on the delay claim analysis.
